{K2Splitter}

Intergraf’s latest publication, the 2015 European Book Market Report, is now available to purchase. This comprehensive look at the European book market is composed of two sections.

The first section is a recap of Intergraf’s recent Book Printers’ Strategic Workshop which took place in September in the Munich area. This section of the report concludes with a strategic approach for companies to follow so they can survive and thrive in the market.

The second part analyses the European book market as a whole. This study was commissioned by Intergraf and undertaken by consultancy firm, Smithers Pira. It  outlines the state of the industry based on data from Smithers Pira’s extensive database and was compiled from a review of top-line book printing market trends by geographic market and process, with forecasts up until 2020.

There is further analysis of key drivers and trends in book printing today - including the rise in just-in-time delivery, the impact of e-readers and offshore printing.

Some findings:

  • The outlook for the European book printing industry is mostly one of long-term decline due to the combination of the economic crisis in 2008 and declining book readership from the increasing amount of time devoted to competing media and new digital technologies such as e-books.
  • Western Europe is seeing a faster drop in book printing output than Central & Eastern Europe.
  • In 2014 European book printing output was valued at €6.39 bn - a decline of 22% on 2008 levels.
  • China and Hong Kong are the single largest source of imported books in the EU, in volume and value terms.
  • Overall EU book exports are at a similar level to 2000.
  • The volume of inkjet is set to double by 2020.

The report is free for Intergraf members and available to purchase for €250 (plus VAT if applicable).
