Theresa Muecke, Master Student in Print & Media Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, has won the inaugural edition of the Intergraf Student Award with her Master Thesis: Digital transformation of industrial digital printing: Software concept for an optimised workflow management in industrial, decorative digital printing.

Following an open and competitive call to Master, PhD and Post-Doc students, a committee of expert judges voted for German student Theresa Muecke’s Master Thesis to win the very first Intergraf Student Award. Theresa wins a €5,000 grant for her outstanding contribution to print media research.

The Intergraf Student Award was designed in 2017 to support one student per year in their work about a relevant topic for the printing industry. Creativity and innovation in the graphical sector is supported by research and Intergraf aims to support the printing industry, and students producing excellent work in a related field, by encouraging and awarding good research. With our Student Award, Intergraf also aims to foster stronger links between the printing industry and its future workforce leaders.

The winning Master Thesis focused on digital transformation in the printing industry by analysing, and subsequently restructuring, the digital printing workflow of a selected printing company. After carrying out process mapping and modelling to underline existing workflow inefficiencies, a detailed market analysis was then carried out to find the best workflow management software solution to meet the company’s individual needs – as per the information gathered in the process mapping and modelling. By selecting the most appropriate workflow management software, this research is projected to optimise the workflow process of the selected printing company by up to 80%.

Theresa Muecke will present her winning Master Thesis to Intergraf members and other printing industry professionals from across Europe on 1st June 2018 at Intergraf’s upcoming conference in Milan: Print Matters for the Future: Print 4.0.
