Print Matters conference - 14 June 2024

Intergraf held the 2024 edition of the Print Matters annual conference with the participation of the Nordic Printing Association (NOPA) on Friday, June 14th, in Bucharest, Romania.

The Print Matters 2024 programme is designed to offer a forward-looking perspective on the graphic industry's future. Attendees delved into the impact of Artificial Intelligence on printing, exploring both the risks and opportunities it presents. The conference showcased recent Intergraf research comparing print and digital communication in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and consumer preferences, offering invaluable insights to participants. The agenda has been set to include engaging case studies, discussions on EU legislation, analyses of supply chain risks, exploration of changes in print distribution dynamics and the print industry's role in the development of the advertising sector, highlighting its significance in the evolving landscape. Maja Drča is the EU Representative of PEFC International since January 2021. In her role Maja leads the PEFC EU office in Brussels, and continues to ensure PEFC’s presence at EU level.

Before joining PEFC, Maja has worked on sustainability and environmental topics as part of the forest and packaging sectors in Brussels focusing on advocacy, policy and communication work as well as on international cooperation topics as part of an international development NGO in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Slovenian by origin, Maja has an academic background in European studies and Diplomacy.

Håvard Grjotheim

Håvard Grjotheim is an accomplished business leader currently serving as the Working Chairman of ScandBook Holding AB in Sweden. With a successful career spanning several major companies in Scandinavia, he brings a wealth of experience as a CEO.

He is the President of NOPA, the Nordic Printing Association. Håvard has also made notable contributions as the President of the Norwegian Printing Federation and former President of Intergraf.

Pien Haks

Pien Thérèse Haks won the Intergraf Young Talent Award 2024 for her submission titled "How might artificial intelligence affect the print industry, and what are the associated risks and opportunities?" She has a strong background in marketing, human resources, and project management. Currently, she works at the Graphic Education Center (GOC) on sustainable employability, CRM systems management, and overseeing multilingual projects. Pien holds a diploma in Marketing Communications from ROC Nijmegen and is studying Business Administration, Management, and Economics at HAN Arnhem. She lives in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
Dávid István

Dávid István has been the Administrator and General Manager of S.C. Disz Tipo Ltd., a printing house and packaging factory, since 1994. Prior to this, he managed S.C. D&H Soft Ltd., and worked as a system engineer at S.C. Electroprecizia S.A., and an investment engineer at the Vulturul Comarnic refractory products factory. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Brașov University and has further training in printing house management from Boles Morgan & Canino Inc. Fluent in Hungarian, Romanian, and English, with additional proficiency in German and Dutch, Dávid is known for his strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. He has successfully led various projects funded by European funds and is actively involved in professional associations, holding significant positions such as President of the "Transilvania" Association of Printers and Governor of the Association of Lions Clubs in Romania.
Riley McNulty
Vice President of Customer Experience and Consulting

Riley McNulty is the Vice President of Customer Experience and Consulting and is responsible for managing and producing custom research for hardware and software vendors and industry participants. Customer engagements range from market sizing and forecasting, quantitative trend analysis, and qualitative voice of the customer analyses to benchmarking studies. He joined the company in 2011 and has been in the document output industry since 1998. Prior to joining Keypoint Intelligence, Mr. McNulty was a Director of Market Management within the strategic planning group of Fiserv Output Solutions. In this role, he produced market and competitive analyses and supported strategic planning and product management initiatives, with a particular focus on the healthcare and secure card market segments. Prior to his time with Fiserv, Mr. McNulty accumulated over eleven years of experience on the market research supplier side, covering the production print and document outsourcing market segments. In this capacity, he produced an extensive body of market research incorporating quantitative surveys, qualitative end-user studies, market forecasting, competitive intelligence, and benchmarking studies.
Cornel Porosnicu

Cornel Constantin Porosnicu currently holds two leadership positions. He is General Manager at NX PRINT SRL since 1998. In this role, he oversees all aspects of the company, including setting goals, approving budgets, and making investment decisions. Additionally, Cornel serves as General Manager at FLYERPRINT SRL since 2010. He is responsible for managing a company focused on web-to-print services and selling equipment used in the printing and packaging industries. He also plays a role in developing new innovative and ecological printing products.
Kari Spjeldnæs

Kari Spjeldnæs is an Associate Professor and Head of Department at Kristiania University College. The influence of digitalization on long-form leisure reading is Spjeldnæs’ key focus in research. In her PhD thesis from the University of Bergen in the autumn of 2023, she explores changes in reading habits and the consequences of digitalization on adult leisure readers and publishers. Furthermore, Spjeldnæs has extended experience in the publishing industry, having worked more than 30 years in Norwegian trade publishing, 20 of them in leadership positions. Thus, Spjeldnæs combines the insider perspective from editorial practices, commercial business premises, and digital development with the scientific scrutinizing of the ongoing change due to digitalization. She has published three scientific articles on leisure reading and publishing in reputable journals, a fourth of which is forthcoming. She has also published a non-fiction narrative on reading pleasure (2020).

Ulrich has 30+ years of experience in the European printing industry. He has served on the Intergraf board since 2018, taking over as President in 2021.
Jeremy Tawedian

Jeremy is a researcher, communications specialist, and journalist. After completing his MSc in Sociology at Ghent University (Belgium), he joined Intergraf as a research assistant, where he built a database of studies which compare print and digital communication tools. Apart from his work in the graphic industry, Jeremy has conducted research in a variety of disciplines, such as marketing and consumer studies, entrepreneurship, urban sociology, education, and migration studies. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic, he possesses three years of professional experience as a marketeer and writer, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from ESA Business School (Lebanon).
